Select Single if only one structure is affected. For example, a residential dwelling with attached garage.

Select Multiple if more than one structure is affected and an Add building option is available below the first building area. Multiple buildings might be a single dwelling with detached garage and implement shed, multiple units or homes, school classroom blocks and detached administration block, and so on.
You must answer these questions for each structure included on your application.
Building name or description defaults to Main building for the first structure in the form or Building 2 and so on for additional buildings. You can change the default as required.
What is this building's general classification? identifies a broad category for the structure. The categories relate to Building Code A1 Classified uses and are further clarified by your selections for the Current, lawfully established use and Current use fields.
Location of building within site / block number records where the structure is located on the block of land in relation to the nearest road access.
Number of levels is the total number of levels in the building, including levels below ground.
Level / unit number records an identifying description or number, for example when the affected structure is part of a larger development, such as a unit in a multi-residential development or level in a multi-level structure.
What is the scope of work for this building? is either Alteration or addition to all or part of an existing building (default) or Construction of new building. When Construction of new building is selected, Existing floor area is read-only and Intended year of construction is displayed instead of Year first constructed.
Existing floor area is the total floor area for the structure before the project. This option is read-only when the scope of work is Construction of new building.
New floor area added by this project may be a positive or negative number of square metres. To provide a negative number, enter - (hyphen or minus) before the number.
Total floor area is calculated as the Existing floor area plus the New floor area.
Year first constructed is an actual or approximate year in which the structure was first built. This option is shown when the scope of work is Alteration or addition.
Intended year of construction is shown when the scope of work is Construction of new building.
Intended life is either indefinite (50 years or more) or limited (less than 50 years). If you select Limited, you must enter the intended life of the building in years.
Are there one or more uses for the building? defaults to Single use. Select Multiple uses when there are multiple uses within a single structure, for example a structure containing shops and restaurants with accommodation above. The Multiple uses table includes Level, Current, lawfully established / planned use and Number of occupants fields. Select Add a use to add a new row.
Current, lawfully established / planned use sets a use from the list of Building Code A1 Classified uses.
Will the building work result in a change of use? Select Yes if your project will change the current use of the building.
